AI Ethics and Respect for Creators
Last updated: July 10, 2026
This is not a finalized manifesto. It is a record of how ShyStella approaches AI and creative work today, and the direction we intend to take.
1. Before we are a company that builds AI services, we are a group of creators
ShyStella is a team that uses, builds, and tunes AI. But before that, we are a group of creators — people who have imagined, written, drawn, designed, and expressed themselves.
That is why we do not treat the anxiety creators feel about AI as someone else's problem.
We know how heavily these things weigh: the worry that your work might be trained on or used without permission, the fear that skills and instincts built over many years could be replaced too easily, and the question of what will become of the value of things made by human hands.
We do not want to infringe on creators' rights, or to treat their feelings lightly. We do not want to consume another creator's time and effort carelessly simply because we build AI, or because we are able to use it.
Of course, we do not believe good intentions are enough. Saying "we did not mean to" does not make responsibility disappear. So this document is not here to declare that we are perfectly ethical.
As a group of creators who work with AI, we want to keep a record of what we must be careful about, how we should respect creators, and how we will improve where we fall short.
2. We want to treat AI as a technology that expands creative work, not one that replaces it
ShyStella does not see AI merely as a tool for producing results quickly. We build AI systems, tune them, design conversational experiences, and explore what kind of relationship people can have with AI.
To us, AI is a tool that widens the room people have to experiment with their imagination, and a technology that cuts down repetitive work so we can focus on the judgments and expressions that matter more. But we do not believe AI should lightly take the place of human creation simply because it is fast and convenient.
So even when we use AI, our goal is to complete the main assets and the creative work that define our products' identity through human creators wherever possible.
As a startup, it is difficult to have everything perfectly in place from the beginning. There are times when we need to experiment quickly with the help of AI, produce interim results, and validate a direction. But we do not believe that should ever become an excuse to permanently replace human creation.
And where AI has helped, we will not hide it. We will make the boundary clear so that users are not misled.
3. We believe respect for creators should be proven through structure, not words
We do not think it is enough to say that we respect creators. Respect has to translate into real commissions, fair compensation, and opportunities to work.
We will start by reviewing the AI-assisted assets used in our own products and services. Among them, we will prioritize replacing the main assets — those with the highest visibility and importance — with the work of human creators, and as a matter of principle we pay fair compensation to the creators who take on that work.
This is not charity. We believe that when the sensibility and interpretation of human creators are added, the quality and originality of our products improve as well. At the same time, it is part of the responsibility we must carry: returning to people the creative opportunities that AI might otherwise have taken away.
When we sell or otherwise trade work created with the help of AI, we also aim to put a portion of that revenue toward commissioning human creators. For example, selling AI-generated images, or producing and selling physical goods based on images or designs made with AI tools.
That said, not all of these arrangements are finalized. Rather than making large promises we would struggle to keep, we intend to start within a scope we can actually sustain, and to share the results openly.
We do not disclose specific figures or ratios, because the company's revenue could be inferred from them. Instead, once a year we will publish results that can be checked, stated as counts — how many commissions we gave to human creators, how many assets we replaced with human work, and which projects this covered.
For now, this applies to our own products and services. As the company grows, our goal is to expand it step by step beyond our own products, toward supporting the creator ecosystem more broadly.
4. What we do not do
As a team that uses and develops AI, we also want to be clear about the lines we will not cross.
- We do not take on work intended to imitate or replicate a specific creator's art style, writing style, or aesthetic without permission.
- We do not treat a creator's work as mere data or raw material.
- We do not replace human creation with AI for the sole purpose of cutting costs.
- We do not deliberately conceal the use of AI in a way that leads users to mistake it for human-made work.
When choosing AI tools, we also try to consider the provenance of the data, its licensing, and the impact on creators. We cannot claim to solve every problem perfectly, but we will not forget that the tools we choose are themselves part of an ethical judgment.
5. We are not a team with all the answers
The conversation around AI and creative work is still changing rapidly. What we believe to be right today may prove insufficient tomorrow.
So this document is less a final answer than a promise to keep revising it. Where we find shortcomings, we will correct them. Where we find a better way, we will adopt it.
ShyStella does not reject AI. We build it, we use it, and we believe in its possibilities. But we do not want a future in which human creation is treated lightly simply because AI exists.
Before we are a company that builds AI services, we are a group of creators. That is why we will keep looking for ways that do not infringe on creators' rights, ways that return opportunities to them rather than reduce them, and directions in which human expression is valued more, not less.
